An economic production quantity (EPQ) system with an imperfect production model in which demand is affected by advertisement frequency, selling price, stock level and product replacement time is discussed in this paper. It is unavoidable to produce only perfect quality goods in a manufacturing operation due to real-life issues like labor problems, machinery faults, etc. Therefore, we consider the production system imperfect and manufacture a fraction of imperfect goods that depend on the production rate. All produced goods are continuously shifted to the screening center, where perfect goods are directly sold to the consumers. After the screening period, the imperfect goods are transferred to the reworking center, where some imperfect goods are reworked at a price. The remaining defective products are sold as a single lot. A profit function is developed for this proposed production inventory model, which is highly nonlinear. The total profit is maximized using the graphical method to get the optimal production quantity and total business time. The profit function’s concavity is shown graphically by using the Mathematica software. To demonstrate the model’s feasibility, numerical examples are provided. Sensitivity analysis is carried out to highlight the findings of the suggested production inventory system and depict the managerial insights.

This research investigates the possibility for firms competing in the same market to willingly and profitably share their capacity. We consider two firms selling substitutable products in four different scenarios, according to their competition (non-competing or competing) and capacity sharing (with or without capacity sharing option) situations. In each scenario, each firm’s optimal capacity sharing and retail pricing strategies are characterized. Our results indicate that the two firms are willing to share their capacity only when the capacity selling firm has sufficiently large capacity while the capacity buying firm has sufficiently small capacity. The firms’ relative capacity in turn determine the optimal capacity sharing price, the exchanged capacity sharing quantity, and their retail prices in the market. Going against the common intuition, our results show that it can still be optimal for a firm to sell her capacity to her direct competitor even when she sets a capacity price lower than her retail price (i.e. she makes less per unit of capacity when selling it to the competitor rather than selling it in her own market). Furthermore, capacity sharing can cause the selling firm to willingly lower her retail price despite the smaller capacity she has left after selling some capacity to the competitor. Overall, our research suggests that capacity sharing is a viable and profitable mechanism to help firms selling substitutable products gain more profits and more effectively match their supplies with demand in the market.

Digital Transformation creates new potential for MSMEs in developing businesses, especially with Indonesia’s business climate as ASEAN’s largest digital economy country. However, the challenges of digital adoption, especially infrastructure and trends in public economics, need further study, for exploring deeper and more complex factors of small business sustainability from big technical dimensions of technology and business management. Empirical research was conducted to explore empirically the factors of implementing Industrial Advancement Technology 4.0 and Community Economic Trends from External Perspective of Indonesian MSMEs in building sustainable digital business performance. The questionnaires were distributed to 231 respondents who met requirements of Indonesian MSME owners obtained from online survey using purposive sampling technique. This study shows support for all hypotheses proposed as exploration of the supporting factors for sustainable digital business performance. Digital SME mindset needs to be developed by making small businesses on global scale. Integration Big Data and IoT in MSME business resolve all business problems and build innovative business culture, empowering MSME employees to use technology. The internal challenges of business units can be overcome by strategic efforts and utilizing external roles in building sustainable MSME digital business. Collaboration with Quintuple Helix actors can be an option to further build a sustainable digital business.

In this paper, a multistage reciprocating compressor system is considered to study, analyze and improve its reliability by incorporating the redundancies using Markov approach. In Markov method, the reliability is assessed by creating state space model and deriving probabilistic equations of all the states. The developed equations are further solved with the help of a MATLAB. Constant failure and repair rates are considered for the different components in the system. Standby redundancy has been employed to enhance the system reliability. System reliability value for the basic system model, i.e. Model 1 at 10,000$$h is 0.1252 that has been increased by using standby redundancies in Model 4 with no repair to 0.6428 and with repair to 0.9374. This work will be helpful to the manufacturers, users, researchers and others by the application, and implementation of the proposed methodology.

Additive manufacturing is emerging as one of the manufacturing technologies, which affect the traditional supply chain management. The traditional supply chain is based on a push system, whereas an additional supply chain is based on a pull system. In this work we have found the impact of 3D printing on supply chain management, what the risks and opportunities of 3D printing on the supply chain are and, also what the companies are doing to leverages these opportunities and risks. It has been concluded that the additive supply chain has drastically changed the traditional supply chain in four key ways i.e. time, quality, speed, and environmental impact. It will result in the effective management of resources, which is of immense importance, keeping in mind the sustainable development goals of a blue-chip organization. It will be cost-effective and will reduce the lead-time of the supply chain. It will result in increased customer satisfaction, as the product will be produced by mass customization and improved quality. Moreover, this will lead to flexibility in the manufacturing process, which will enhance industrial efficiency. Therefore, we can say that this research will give us the vision of different industries in India in the coming years.
