Submission Guidelines

  1. The Journal solicits unpublished manuscripts not currently under consideration by another publication. Submission of a paper will imply that it contains original unpublished work and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere.
  2. Electronic contributions only. Please submit to https://www.editorialmanager.com/jde
  3. Please include a cover letter outlining the main research question and major contribution of the paper.
  4. Authors must submit an electronic version of their manuscript, clearly typed in WORD with double-spacing and 12-point font. Use one inch margins to facilitate editing. Limit manuscript length to 30 double spaced pages of text, not including references, tables and figures.
  5. Arrange the pages of the manuscript as follows:
    1. The title page with title, author's name, institutional affiliation, and name, mailing address, phone and fax numbers of the corresponding author
    2. Second page; repeat title then the abstract of 100 to 200 words, followed by a list of 4-5 key words used for indexing purposes
    3. Third page and following: Main text of the paper
    4. References (start on a separate page)
    5. Optional: Author acknowledgements (start on a separate page)
    6. Endnotes, if used (start on a separate page; please limit these)
    7. Tables (start on a separate page)
    8. Figures (place each on a separate page)
  6. The journal follows the guidelines of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
  7. Place lengthy mathematical proofs and very extensive detailed tables in an appendix or omit entirely.
  8. Endnotes. Attempt to incorporate all content endnotes into the text of the paper. Number endnotes in the text consecutively using Arabic numerals and list together on a separate page. Place endnotes to tables on the bottom of the table.
  9. Tables. Number tables with Arabic numerals and type each table on a separate page at the end of the paper. Indicate in the text approximately where to place each table. Tables must be self-contained, in the sense that the reader must be able to understand them without going back to the text of the paper. Each table must have a title. Title, column headings, captions, etc. must be clear and to the point.
  10. Equations. Display all but very short mathematical expressions centered on a separate line. Number equations consecutively on the right margin, using Arabic numerals. Use Greek letters only when necessary.
  11. Figures. Number figures with Arabic numerals. Type all figure captions in double space on a separate sheet following the endnotes. A figure's title should be part of the caption. Figures must be self-contained. Each figure must have a title followed by a descriptive legend. Submit final figures in camera-ready format. Bitmap figures, such as photographs or half-tone images, should be at least 300dpi (TIFF, BMP, JPEG). Vector (line-art) figures, such as charts and technical drawings, should be 600-1200dpi (EPS, PS, PDF). Identify each in the margin or on back by number and author.
  12. References. List references on a separate page at the end of the paper. Refer to them in the text by last name with the year in parentheses. Below are examples to use for listing references:

    Journal Article:
Jensen, MC and WH Meckling (1976). Theory of the firm: Managerial behavior, agency costs and ownership structure. Journal of Financial Economics, 4, 305–360.

    Book:
Kalleberg, AL and I Berg (1987). Work and Industry: Structures, Markets, and Processes. New York: Plenum Press.

  13. The first-named author of each published article will receive the PDF version of the paper free-of-charge. For more information on our policy regarding PDF usage, please visit http://www.worldscientific.com/page/authors/author-rights
