MATHS AGAINST CANCER

    Abstract:

    The risk of cancer can be already written in our genoma. Nowadays this risk can be discovered before the cancer appears. A biologist group of the University of Bologna has found a vaccine for mammary carcinoma (Triplex Vaccine). The vaccine has been tested on genetic modified mice (HER-2/neu mice) which develop the mammary carcinoma. Each in vivo experiment takes at least one year and roughly 20 mice. In vivo experiments show that the vaccine is successful but only if the mice are treated for all its lifetime (chronic schedule). We have been requested to built up a model of the vaccine action in order to find a lighter vaccination schedule.
