    Abstract:

In this paper, laboratory data of breakwater damage, profile evolution and energy fluxes over an homogeneous mound breakwater are presented and discussed. The experiments were done over two models, consisting on a mound breakwater composed of cubes of the same size, with random placement and two initial seaward slopes, of 1.5/1 and 2/1. Two different experiments have been made (called A and B), in the laboratories of the Universidad of Granada and the Universidad Autónoma de Mexico, with the aim of testing the influence of the scale on the results. Both experiments show that the final equilibrium profiles for all the tests are similar, independently of the initial profile or the type of the waves. The partition of energy fluxes is similar for the experiments A and B. The final placement of the cubes shows that the cubes are self-organized, what gives to the breakwater a minimization of the damage.
